As young adults, both of us enjoyed the opportunity of travelling to other countries to learn a new language and experience the culture. In the case of Marylou, a Canadian, it was a six-month trip around Europe, followed by a year of studies and working in France. For Jesus, a native of Spain, it was a summer in Ireland and another in the U.S.A., learning English and being immersed in two very different environments. From those experiences arose the conviction that exposure to new cultures and languages serves individuals in their personal growth, and society as a means of enabling communication between individuals of very different backgrounds. In 1989, realizing that Canada offered a model of a tolerant, multi-lingual and multi-cultural country in which there were abundant opportunities to learn English, we began offering programs for teenagers across the country. The variety of learning experiences which are featured today by Red Leaf reflect our continuous development of educational and travel opportunities from that point forward to today.
