Christmas curiosities in some canadian provinces

One of the most popular Canadian traditions is Christmas. We will try to describe how do the canadians celebrate Christmas. We will also comment how the different parts of the country still live their tradition as a tribute to previous generations. Here we go, join us if you want to know more about this topic.

canadian traditions 2First of all, Christmas in Canada is very similar to the one celebrated in United States. However, in some areas of the country is celebrated a huge winter fest called Sinck Tunck. Skimoes dance and sing old songs during the celebration.

This is one of the most popular Canadian traditions

– In New Scotland Christmas songs composed two centuries ago are sung by the people confirming that the oral tradition is one of the foundations of their culture. They also celebrate this fest with belsnicklers, or mummers, that toll their bells really loud and ask for Christmas candies at every house. If the host identify to one of the mummers they stop the noise and their prize are the candies.

– In Quebec they decorate their houses with the nativity scene. After going to the midnight mass they come back to their homes and eat pork pie, boulettes (small meatballs) during the reveillon (Christmas banquet).

canadian traditions 3– In the british Columbia they prefer turkey with some fresh food like salmon.

– The classic Christmas dinner in Canada is the roasted turkey with veggies and sauces. The dessert is a fruit pudding with brandy sauce. Also cakes with dried fruits are very popular.
